All I Want for Christmas is a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Here is a brief life update that includes some health details at the end. If you’re a bit squeamish, you’ve been warned.

So much has happened these past few months. I finished my first semester of graduate school, started tutoring again, became a top selling Passion Planner Ambassador, and got a rather unexpected Christmas present.

Let’s start with school; I survived my first semester as a grad student during a pandemic. My professors were amazing, I had a lot of interesting conversations with my classmates, and I learned a lot about the teaching profession in a short amount of time. But subject matter aside, I can’t believe I completed an entire semester online via zoom. Prior to this pandemic, like many people, I had no idea what zoom was. Then it suddenly became my most used app overnight.

Then I got a nice email followed by a pretty package in the mail.

This was an early Christmas Gift from Passion Planner for being one of their top 50 sellers. I received the following:

  • 2 hardbound (limited edition) Passion Planner Dailies

  • One of the “New Year, New Goals” Sticker books

  • A Blank Greeting Card

  • A lovely letter from Passion Planner

With that being said, my semester ended on a lovely note and I got that box of goodies from Passion Planner. I was ready for Christmas and New Years.

However, the night before Christmas Eve, I received another early Christmas gift. I spent the night hunched over in pain and puking my guts out. It was one of the longest nights of my life. I assumed it was food poisoning since the last thing I had eaten was fast food. But the insane abdominal cramping and unusual things I was vomiting, told me otherwise. The next morning my mom advised me to go into urgent care. I spent all of Christmas Eve in the hospital. They ran numerous blood tests and did an ultrasound only to find that I had gall stones in my gallbladder. If you are familiar with them, you’d know that they aren’t fun in the slightest. The doctors tried to flush them out and it ended up doing more harm than good. My gallbladder ended up swollen and inflamed. Before the night was over I was informed that I could continue waiting it out or have the entire organ removed. Well, early Christmas morning I went into the ER and left with one less organ. That’s how I ended up getting a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy for Christmas. I’m still a bit sore but that is nothing compared to pain I was feeling before.

So that’s my brief life update. Hope you all had an amazing Christmas, for those of you who celebrate, and have a wonderful New Year!
